Motherhood and Photography: A Story of Real, Everyday Magic

As I'm writing this, coffee in one hand, baby at my feet, and pancakes sizzling in the background for my eight-year-old, I’d be lying if I said life was perfect. But one thing I’ve grown to realize is that life doesn’t have to look perfect to feel perfect.

For those who know me (and for those just finding my corner of the internet), I became a mom to a beautiful little girl eight years ago, and it’s been the biggest blessing of my life.  I remember the day she was born, so beautiful and petite, just an innocent soul ready to conquer the world. Fast forwarding to the present, now I'm soaking up every bit of baby snuggles again with my sweet boy who was born what feels like just a short ten months ago.

Motherhood has never been the most picture-perfect journey.  Navigating through single motherhood  and figuring things out on my own. Fast forwarding to the present, I’m blessed to share it in a happy, loving marriage with my wonderful husband.. Through it all, motherhood has taught me so many things between the messy breakfasts, tiny giggles, and everyday chaos  that I wouldn’t trade for anything. I’ve learned that life is made up of seasons and each one so different, yet so full. From the sticky heat of summer and the fresh spring air to the crisp fall mornings and what feels like the long Wisconsin winters, it’s all about making the most of the moment you’re in.

Through My Lens: Capturing Real Life and Authentic Moments

I usually sneak in editing sessions between nap times, often perched at the kitchen counter with a cold cup of coffee nearby and toys scattered in the living room with a TV show on in the background. My weekends and late afternoons are spent photographing families and capturing the giggles, the quiet moments, and all the little in-betweens that make life so beautiful.

Somewhere between the chaos of motherhood, school drop-offs, and my eight-year-old’s sports schedules, I find this deep sense of purpose behind the lens. Would I change it for the world? Absolutely not. But it has taught me to slow down.

Photography has taught me to really see people, not just pose them. It’s not about taking a picture of a family; it’s about capturing who they are between their laughter, their connection, and their personality. I want every photo I take to feel like them, authentic, imperfect yet perfect, and full of life.

Every Moment You Share is Worth Remembering

If there’s one thing I could leave you with today, it’s this: if you ever find yourself in front of my camera, know that it’s never just another session to me. Every person and family I photograph holds a story, your story, and it’s an honor I don’t take lightly.

When I capture your moments, I see the love, the laughter, and the beautiful chaos that makes your family uniquely yours. My hope is that when you look back at your photos, you don’t just see how it looked but you feel how it felt.

Because at the end of the day, that’s what this life (and this work) is all about. Finding the beauty in the real, the everyday, and the perfectly imperfect moments in between.
